a small writing desk in Pilgrim's Inn
"No, she was not sorry, she decided five months later , as she sat at her escritoire , set in the window of her upstairs
sitting room, and worked on her housekeeping books."
wonder what it looked like:
isn't this lovely:
Do you have a housekeeping book?
I would expect Nadine was keeping track of house expenses in the new house.

Was envisioning a small secretary so she could see out the window. I love a desk at a window. Helps with daydreaming doesn't it. See you tomorrow.
See you ... and looking forward to the book discussion with a smaller group
Don't you wish you could visit the Inn? It has always enchanted me since the first time I read the book decades ago and the enchantment has not faded with many subsequent readings. BTW, here is a little article from the EG website about the book (which you may have already seen) which was titled The Herb of Grace when published in England.

Enjoy your reading!

And here's another interesting link. I've had a delightful half hour googling images and came across this one, a drawing of the Inn, and a related article. How I would love to have been the one to find this particular copy at the sale the blog author mentions, complete with the literary review! http://estatesalechronicles.blogspot.com/2013/10/the-herb-of-grace.html
And with that, I shall say good evening and leave you to your reading.
One more, Elizabeth Goudge at her writing desk in 1934, a photo I've not come across before. Perhaps Nadine's desk was patterned on something similar. You can click on it to enlarge it. So interesting to see EG as a 34-year-old!
