It's been a week of quiet
and time. "Time out of time."
I always want to know how to
hold onto this kind of time.
It breeds slowness and even
cultivates energy. I feel like
doing because my days are not
scheduled. Scheduled life and
its pace leers ahead. Moby Dick
to be caught! I'll be spending the
next month going out to sea
on the whaling ship to find that
Big White Whale! I'm determined
to make this one a great trip! The
wide ocean is before me ~~ a long
book to read through with 15 high
schoolers. Above is my Christmas
present to inspire us: Altered
Book by Penny Arrowood, a mixed
media artist from Fayetteville, NC.
Of course, there is a story when I saw
the book (for another day ) and now
the magical journey with it.

of the inside of the book)
We cannot live only for ourselves. A thousand fibers connect us with our fellow men; and among those fibers, as sympathetic threads, our actions run as causes, and they come back to us as effects.

Bonnie you have had the gift of rest this week. And Moby Dick will become alive this month; I hear from others what a fantastic teacher you are. I can't wait to see the altered book!
I totallly agree with you about schedules and how productive we are without them. This time of year I always ask myself, "How can I keep this calmness when our lives get back to normal?" I always try but never succeed. I want the Christmas spirit to be my normal. I keep working on it and trying. Maybe someday I'll attain it!
Bonnie, thank you SO much for your support and appreciation of my work! You were right, though, I do sort of miss it ;-) It does bring me great happiness to know that it is in a place where it is loved and enjoyed. I hope that it brings much joy to you and your students as you delve the briny deep with Ahab! Thanks, too, for the links.
